One of the greatest aspects of taking a vacation is that you get out of your routine and try new things. Nestled in the woods as we are, overlooking the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, you might imagine that you would spend your whole weekend getaway in the Smoky Mountains. What a great way to spend a holiday, right? It sure is. Yet it can also be fun to mix it up a little, and follow a day of hiking or biking in the park with a short drive to Morristown, where you can go to the theater.
The Theatre Guild in Morristown is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. Founded in 1934, it is one of the longest running community theaters in state, and since its inception it has been creating quality theater. This July, musical fans can watch High School Musical 2, which promises to be toe-tapping good fun for the whole family. Towards the end of August, The Odd Couple will be performed.
A trip to the theater can be refreshing. Sunday matinees are at 2pm, which gives you ample time to sleep in, enjoy a fabulous breakfast at our Smoky Mountain Resort, and have a leisurely drive to Morristown. After the show, stop in Gatlinburg on your way back to Christopher Place, to peruse the shops and maybe grab some dinner. Or, indulge in fine dining near Gatlinburg back here, enjoying the views from the Mountain View Dining Room, or more intimately in Marston’s Library Pub.
