Shop East Tennessee Towns

Many folks come to our East Tennessee lodging because of its proximity to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. We are located about ten miles from Cosby – the least crowded entrance to the park – which makes us a good choice for folks who are seeking solitude in the Smokies.

Yet our Smoky Mountain inn is also located near a number of small towns that are just as worthy of exploration as the park – especially at this time of year, when shopping is a priority. Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are pretty well known for their interesting shops and arts and crafts, and they are certainly good places to visit during the holidays. Yet Sevierville, Morristown and Cosby are also worth exploring.

Cosby may not have many shops, but there is a good chance you will find something unique if you look there. Look for incredible quilts and knives, and hand-crafted musical instruments. Chocolate lovers will not want to miss the treats at the Candy Outlet. Historic downtown Sevierville is home to several interesting boutique shops that feature local arts and crafts. Like Pigeon Forge, it is also close to some great outlet shops.

Morristown is a good place to start looking for antiques. Fine European and early American pieces can be found, along with a variety of collectibles and curios. If you are patient and not pressed for time, The Great Smokies Flea Market, north of Sevierville, houses over 1,000 vendors.

Shopping can be fun, but it is also exhausting. Knowing you’ll spend the night in a comfortable room at our East Tennessee inn can help get you through. After a day of hustle and bustle, you’ll look forward to our tranquil setting on over two hundred acres. Make a reservation for dinner in our elegant formal dining room, or plan for a more casual dinner in the pub. There is no need to get back in your car once you make it here. Just relax, and treat yourself for a change.

One of the greatest aspects of taking a vacation is that you get out of your routine and try new things. Nestled in the woods as we are, overlooking the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, you might imagine that you would spend your whole weekend getaway in the Smoky Mountains. What a great way to spend a holiday, right? It sure is. Yet it can also be fun to mix it up a little, and follow a day of hiking or biking in the park with a short drive to Morristown, where you can go to the theater.

The Theatre Guild in Morristown is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. Founded in 1934, it is one of the longest running community theaters in state, and since its inception it has been creating quality theater. This July, musical fans can watch High School Musical 2, which promises to be toe-tapping good fun for the whole family. Towards the end of August, The Odd Couple will be performed.

A trip to the theater can be refreshing. Sunday matinees are at 2pm, which gives you ample time to sleep in, enjoy a fabulous breakfast at our Smoky Mountain Resort, and have a leisurely drive to Morristown. After the show, stop in Gatlinburg on your way back to Christopher Place, to peruse the shops and maybe grab some dinner. Or, indulge in fine dining near Gatlinburg back here, enjoying the views from the Mountain View Dining Room, or more intimately in Marston’s Library Pub.
