Enjoy the last days of summer by escaping to our Gatlinburg Tennessee bed and breakfast for a few days. While here, make it a goal to enjoy yourself to the fullest extent. Make a reservation at our mountain view dining room for a delicious dinner. Play tennis, hike on our 200 acres, and swim in the pool. Bike along country roads, and picnic in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
There are numerous spots to picnic in the Smoky Mountains. Pick up supplies in nearby Gatlinburg and spend a leisurely morning exploring the park for the perfect spot. Perhaps you’ll want to hike to a waterfall, or go for a horseback ride. Then again, you may simply pull the car over at a scenic overlook. It doesn’t really matter, because it’s summer, the weather is fine, the whole park is beautiful, and you’re together.
Explore the Great Smoky Mountains National Park while staying at our bed and breakfast.

Hike through the beautiful woods surrounding Gatlinburg, TN
The Gatlinburg Trail is a pleasant place to walk or bike. It follows the West Prong of the Little Pigeon River, affords terrific views of the forest and river. It is ideal for guests of our Gatlinburg bed and breakfast who like to get out in the woods but don’t want a lot of elevation gain, as it is fairly level.
Follow the trail almost two miles between the Sugarlands Visitor Center and the outskirts of Gatlinburg proper, keeping an eye out for remains of old homesites as you walk. The Sugarlands Visitor Center is open daily, and is a great resource; it ’s a good place to pick up maps and books about the history and wildlife of the park.
Back at our Smoky Mountains lodging, you may cool off with a dip in our outdoor pool. If you still have energy, work out in our fitness room, hit the tennis courts, or explore the trails of our 200-acres. At the end of the day, restore yourself with a drink at the pub and relax over a game of billiards. You may dine casually in our Gatlinburg pub, or more formally in our Mountain View restaurant (reservations required).

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park encompasses over 800 miles of wilderness in Tennessee and North Carolina. 95% of that wilderness is forested. This is the place to find peace on a trail, and to listen to the sounds of the woods – birdsong, water cascading over rocks, the wind in the leaves. If hiking is a hobby, you must make your way to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Hiking in the Smoky Mountains National Park
Hiking up to Rainbow Falls, which is not too far from our bed and breakfast near Gatlinburg, is a delightful way to spend a day. Between 1.5 – 2 hours are needed to walk the almost 3 miles from the trail head to the falls, but once you get there, you will be richly rewarded. LeConte Creek pushes itself through a narrow bed to tumble over 80 feet below, creating a lovely mist in the process. On sunny days, when the light touches that mist, you’ll understand how the falls came by their name. If you time it right – with a relaxing breakfast in your room at our Smoky Mountains Inn, a scenic drive to the trail head, and the hike – you will reach the falls ready to enjoy a picnic lunch. Don’t forget to bring one!
If you feel adventurous and energetic, continue up the trail towards Mt. LeConte. This trail is the earliest route up to the peak and is quite challenging, with an elevation gain of approximately 4,000 feet. Should you decide to make this trek, be sure you are well prepared with warm clothing, extra food, and a map.
Hiking can be a lovely part of a romantic weekend. It gives you that all-over-tired feeling that allows you to feel entitled to a soak in a hot tub, a nap, and a delicious dinner at either the pub or fine dining restaurant in our Smoky Mountains Inn.

Beautiful sunsets at our Smoky Mountains inn
One of the most perfect getaways, in our opinion, combines walking in the fresh air of the Smoky Mountains and relaxing in luxurious lodging with delicious food.
Our Gatlinburg TN lodging could not be better situated for hiking and walking, as we sit on over 200-acres of wooded land adjacent to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Our staff can direct you to any number of short walks or longer hikes on our grounds or in the park. We feel fortunate that the closest entrance to the park, Cosby, is the least used, virtually guaranteeing a tranquil experience in the woods. We also happily recommend A Walk in the Woods Guide Service for those of you interested in learning more about the history or nature of the park, or for those folks who feel more comfortable being accompanied by experienced guides. According to their website, “Our guides make A Walk in the Woods the best. We have always had the top guides in the business, known for their expertise in the botany, geology, culture and history of the Great Smoky Mountains. Our mission is raising environmental awareness through direct, fun, positive experiences with nature. Anyone can walk you down a trail through the woods. When you go with us, it will be the best day of your vacation.”
The perfect way to finish a day of hiking is relaxing at our Smoky Mountain Inn. Dive into our outdoor pool to cool down from your hike. Enjoy a drink on a deck overlooking the Smoky Mountains, or an appetizer in Marston’s Pub before an elegant dinner in our Tennessee fine dining room. Look forward to breakfast in your room at the time of your choosing as you drift off to sleep.
