A Peaceful Holiday in Smoky Mountains
Monday, December 14th, 2009If you are looking for a peaceful place to spend the holidays this year, head to our Smoky Mountains resort. Once here, you don’t ever need to leave. We’ll pamper you with elegant four-course dinners in our formal restaurant, or fill you with hearty fare in our cozy pub. We’ll bring breakfast to your room, so you can awaken slowly while sipping hot coffee and enjoying the views.
While you’re here, wander around our 200 acres of secluded land adjacent to the National Park, or head into the park itself. Crowds are thin at this time of year, so there is a good chance you’ll have some spectacular places all to yourself, like the historic church in Cades Cove pictured here.
It can be difficult to sneak away during the month of December, but it can also be extremely rewarding. Show your sweetheart how committed you are by whisking him/her away for a romantic weekend. Forgo crowded New Year’s Eve parties at home and welcome 2010 together, here at our Gatlinburg b&b. It’s the perfect way to end one year, and the best way to start another.

Cades Cove
Monday, September 14th, 2009About an hour and a half from our Smoky Mountains Inn is Cades Cove, a lovely little valley nestled in the mountains. There is an eleven mile one-way loop that encircles the valley floor and is ideal for a leisurely motorcycle ride. Bring a picnic, and plan to spend between 2 to 4 hours making your way along this incredibly scenic road. As the foliage turns to reds and golds, there is no better place to be.
Plan to spend the day in the valley, as there are many activities. Abrams Creek has excellent trout fishing. Those interested in the history of the Smokies will enjoy the 19th century grist mill, period homes and churches. Patient lovers of wildlife will almost undoubtedly catch a glimpse of Whitetail deer, or, if you are lucky, perhaps a black bear or wild turkey. Allow time to stop your car or motorcycle and stretch your legs along a trail.
Wednesday and Saturday mornings the road is closed to motorized vehicles until 10 am. This allows pedestrians or bicyclists the opportunity to walk or bike in peace through the valley. Please plan accordingly.
After a long day on your motorcycle, in your car or on a bicycle, you will appreciate returning to your Smoky Mountains Resort, where we will pamper you. Relax your sore muscles in your private whirlpool. Enjoy magnificent views of the Smoky Mountains from your room, where you may have a romantic dinner or breakfast delivered to you. Our goal is to help you have the most relaxing, and if possible romantic, holiday possible in Tennessee.
Smoky Mountain National Park’s 75th Anniversary
Friday, June 12th, 2009Smoky Mountain National Park is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2009, and there are many special events throughout the year in honor of this.
If you are feeling spontaneous and are free this weekend, head to our Smoky Mountain inn and plan to attend an outdoor performance of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra at nearby Cades Cove. We still have a couple of rooms available this weekend, and we think the concert at Cades Cove will be terrific. Music starts at 3:00 in the afternoon on Saturday, but there will be special exhibits and programs about the cultural history of Cades Cove prior to that. Arrive early (opens at 10am) and stake a place to listen to the concert with a blanket or lawn chair before wandering among the exhibits. You should pack a picnic to enjoy before or during the concert, as there will not be food on site. Opportunities for listening to symphonic music out of doors in the beautiful Smoky Mountains don’t come along every day, so why not jump at this chance?
Next week the annual ChristyFest will be in nearby Townsend. This year, the festival will be larger than ever because of the 75th Anniversary of the Smoky Mountain Park and the 100th anniversary of the arrival of Leonora Wood, who inspired the character in the Christy books and television series. There will be lots of events and activities celebrating southern mountain life in the early 1900s. The festival starts Wednesday June 17 and lasts four days. Why not come stay at our Smoky Mountains Lodging during the week, and avoid weekend crowds at ChristyFest?
