5 Romantic Ways to Celebrate Valentine’s Day in Gatlinburg and the Smoky Mountains

What would make a great impression on your love for Valentine’s Day?  Think about spending time in an incomparably scenic place like the Smoky Mountains, away from your everyday lives for a well-deserved romantic escape.

The mountains and forests around Gatlinburg certainly inspire romance on their own.  It’s no wonder why it’s one of the top destinations in the state for weddings. But you don’t have to be getting married to enjoy the surroundings.  Whether you’re just dating or celebrating your 50th anniversary, the Smokies is the perfect place for celebrating your love.

Here’s a suggested list of how to spend the day, but any of the activities below will make the most romantic day of the year that more special.

Hiking

To start off your Valentine’s Day right, get your heart pumping with some exercise.  Embark on the quintessential Smoky Mountains activity, an invigorating hike.  Don’t worry about your fitness – there’s a trail suitable for every level.

Whether they’re short and flat (like Cades Cove or Porters Creek) or long and steep (like one of the various routes to Mt. LeConte), you’ll find the hike that’s perfect for the two of you.

Snow and ice may still be on the ground no matter where you go, so prepare accordingly with proper gear, clothing, footwear and plenty of water.

Spa treatments

After that vigorous hike, treat yourself and your beloved to a couples’ massage at one of the many spas around Gatlinburg.

  • The Spa at Pine Mountain and its sister spa, Bear Cove Falls in Pigeon Forge, offer a private couples’ suite with a Jacuzzi tub and fireplace, in addition to the massage.
  • Quiet Reflections uses Swedish massage techniques in their couples’ treatment, and you can choose a session for either 60 or 90 minutes.
  • Another spa to consider is Blue Mountain Mist Country Inn & Spa in Sevierville.

Wine or moonshine tastings

Sharing some wine, or even the favorite local spirit of moonshine, can bring you two closer together.  The Gatlinburg area has five area wineries that collectively bring visitors to the Rocky Top Wine Trail. Try some of the more unusual but tasty creations like muscadine and apple wine.

In the mood for something stronger?  Then go for some moonshine tours and tastings around town, like Ole Smoky, Sugarlands, Doc Collier, and Old Forge.

Scenic views

No matter where you go around the Smoky Mountains, you will undoubtedly find your favorite breathtaking vista.  It could be the Gatlinburg Space Needle and its towering 407 feet above the ground.

Some love the Sky Lift or the Aerial Tramway for a sweeping view of the city and mountains.  Or, you could find your ideal spot somewhere in the National Park, at a trail’s end on peak or along a high ridge.

One thing is for certain – you and your love can share an intimate moment, especially if you go close to sunset time.

Dinner

Of course, Valentine’s Day wouldn’t be complete without a cozy candlelit dinner for two.  Gatlinburg certainly has its share of romantic restaurants to choose from.
